Nigeria’s political landscape is poised for a potential realignment ahead of the 2027 general election, with several parties exploring alliances to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), discussions are underway between the ADC, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to form a united front against the APC.
Abdullahi emphasized that the proposed alliance is not solely focused on unseating President Bola Tinubu, but rather on improving the quality of life for Nigerians. He noted that the country faces significant challenges, citing various indices that highlight the need for collective action to address the nation’s problems. The ADC, he said, is committed to building a party grounded in strong democratic principles, internal unity, and effective governance.
In a related development, the ADC has inaugurated its Constitution Review Committee, led by former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha and former Senate Minority Leader Enyinnaya Abaribe. The committee is tasked with reviewing the party’s constitution and submitting proposed amendments to the National Working Committee within 30 days. This process aims to strengthen party cohesion and consolidate the ADC’s grassroots presence nationwide.
Abdullahi stressed that the ADC is open to working with any group or individual willing to contribute to the country’s development, emphasizing that the party’s primary concern is addressing the everyday challenges faced by Nigerians. He highlighted the need for collective action, stating that the situation in Nigeria requires a unified response from all stakeholders.
As the 2027 general election approaches, the potential alliance between the ADC, NNPP, and PDP is likely to have significant implications for Nigeria’s political landscape. The ADC’s commitment to democratic principles and effective governance may resonate with voters seeking change. With the party’s constitution review process underway, the ADC is poised to strengthen its internal structures and consolidate its position as a major player in Nigerian politics.
