Fayose Urges Fubara to Reconcile with Wike Amid Crisis

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has stated that only spiritual intervention can save Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from his current political challenges. In an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, Fayose emphasized the need for Fubara to reconcile with his predecessor and political godfather, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Fayose attributed Fubara’s crisis to his failure to honor agreements reached in Abuja, saying that spiritual intervention through fasting and prayers is necessary to resolve the situation.

The crisis in Rivers State stems from the governor’s inability to present the 2026 budget, leading to impeachment proceedings by the state’s House of Assembly. The lawmakers accuse Fubara of spending state funds without parliamentary approval. Fayose, who was present at Fubara’s swearing-in ceremony in 2023, noted that Wike did not anticipate Fubara’s actions, which he perceived as a betrayal.

Fayose’s comments come as the political tensions in Rivers State continue to escalate. The former governor urged Fubara to seek spiritual guidance and reconcile with Wike to mitigate the crisis. The situation highlights the complexities of Nigerian politics, where relationships between political leaders can significantly impact governance and decision-making.

The impeachment proceedings against Fubara are a significant development in the crisis, and the outcome is uncertain. The governor’s ability to navigate this challenging situation will depend on his relationships with key stakeholders, including Wike and the state’s lawmakers. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Fubara will address the concerns of the House of Assembly and whether spiritual intervention, as suggested by Fayose, will play a role in resolving the crisis.
