NNPP Denies Kwankwaso’s Defection to APC

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has denied reports that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has changed his stance on the Governor of Kano State, Kabir Yusuf, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the NNPP, this claim is “a terrible lie and a clear example of a shameful and obvious falsehood.”

A recent report alleged that Kwankwaso had backed the idea of Governor Yusuf and other elected NNPP members joining the APC, citing a video message posted on Facebook by his media assistant, Saifullahi Hassan. However, the NNPP’s national publicity secretary, Ladipo Johnson, stated that Kwankwaso’s position remains unchanged.

Johnson emphasized that individuals who wish to leave the party are free to do so, but they should not misrepresent Kwankwaso’s stance to justify their decision. He noted that Kwankwaso has called out some members of the Kwankwasiyya and the NNPP, including those led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for betraying the trust of the people of Kano State.

The NNPP stated that Kwankwaso’s primary concern is to reduce the current political tension in the state. The party has made it clear that members who feel pressured or forced to join the defection movement are free to leave. Johnson warned that those who choose to betray the trust of the people of Kano State will face judgment in the 2027 elections.

The denial comes amid reports of potential defections within the NNPP. The party has reaffirmed its commitment to its ideals and values, and its leader, Kwankwaso, remains a key figure in Nigerian politics. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the NNPP’s stance on the matter is likely to have significant implications for the future of the party and its relationship with other political entities in Nigeria.

The situation in Kano State is being closely watched, with many analysts speculating about the potential consequences of a large-scale defection. The NNPP’s statement is seen as an attempt to clarify its position and reassure its supporters that the party remains united and committed to its goals. As the 2027 elections approach, the party’s ability to maintain its cohesion and navigate the complex political landscape will be crucial to its success.
