Edo State normalcy returns after protest

Normalcy has been restored in Edo State following a violent anti-kidnapping protest in Ekpoma, according to the state’s Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu. The protest, which involved students from Ambrose Ali University, resulted in the arrest of several students. Iyamu announced on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ program that the university will resume classes on Monday, as the state government has taken steps to ensure the situation returns to normal.

The commissioner revealed that the state government has been working closely with security agencies to release the arrested students. “We didn’t sleep till 1:00 am this morning trying to release the students,” he said. A total of 38 students are expected to be released, with the last batch to be freed soon. Iyamu attributed the return of normalcy to the efforts of security agencies and the state government, including the governor, who is still in the area to ensure peace is sustained.

The protest in Ekpoma was sparked by concerns over kidnapping in the region. The Ambrose Ali University students had taken to the streets to demand action from the authorities to address the issue. However, the demonstration turned violent, leading to the arrest of several students. The Edo State government has since intervened to calm the situation and ensure the release of the arrested students.

The return of normalcy to the state is a welcome development, as it will enable students to resume their academic activities without fear of violence or disruption. The state government’s efforts to address the concerns of the students and ensure their safety are also commendable. As the university prepares to resume classes on Monday, it is hoped that the situation will continue to remain peaceful, and the students can focus on their studies without any further disruptions. The Edo State government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region is crucial to ensuring the well-being and safety of its citizens, including students.
