In a bid to enhance security and maintain peace in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the council chairperson, Larai Sylvia Ishaku, has formally inaugurated a 166-member Joint Task Force (JTF). The inauguration ceremony took place at the Jaba Local Government Secretariat, with the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa Gwabin (retd.), represented by his Senior Special Adviser, Mr. Musa Likita.
The JTF recruitment is a proactive measure to forestall potential security threats in the area, which has relatively enjoyed peace compared to other parts of Southern Kaduna. Likita commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of preparing ahead to protect security and peace. He noted that the recruitment was a reflection of responsive leadership, initiated by the local government chairperson with the support of community stakeholders.
The newly recruited volunteers underwent a training program that began over a week ago, requiring discipline, sacrifice, and commitment. Likita praised their willingness to serve, stating that their decision demonstrated a strong commitment to community safety. He urged them to embrace their responsibilities wholeheartedly, assuring that their sacrifices would not go unnoticed.
Ishaku described the inauguration as a defining moment in the history of Jaba Local Government, reflecting the collective resolve to safeguard peace and security. She emphasized that peace must never be taken for granted and that security is a collective responsibility. The JTF, drawn from all 10 wards of the local government, will work closely with conventional security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to strengthen security coordination and grassroots surveillance.
The JTF’s mandate includes intelligence gathering, protecting lives and property, and addressing illicit drug abuse. Ishaku commended the volunteers for their sacrifice and commitment to public service, urging them to discharge their duties with discipline, integrity, and dedication. The inauguration is part of broader efforts by the Jaba Local Government administration to consolidate peace and prevent the spread of insecurity into the area.
The Paramount Chief of the Ham people, represented by the Wakilin Jaba, Elisha Musa, expressed full support for the initiative, describing it as a pioneering gesture that would bring lasting peace to Hamland. The move is seen as a significant step towards enhancing security and maintaining peace in the region, with the JTF set to play a crucial role in protecting lives and property.
