Kwankwaso Sets Conditions for Potential APC Move

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated that any potential move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be contingent upon firm political guarantees. Specifically, he is seeking assurances regarding control of Kano State and the protection of his supporters. Kwankwaso made this statement while receiving party leaders and members from Rano and Dawakin Tofa Local Government Areas at his residence in Kano.

The NNPP leader remains open to political realignment but is cautious about repeating past mistakes. He emphasized that discussions about joining the APC cannot proceed without clear commitments on the fate of NNPP lawmakers, party officials, and grassroots supporters who form the backbone of the Kwankwasiyya movement. Kwankwaso’s political bloc has previously played a crucial role in forming governments at the federal level, only to be marginalized after power was secured.

Kwankwaso warned that history must not be allowed to repeat itself, stressing that no APC leadership figure has provided assurances that his political structure would be preserved or that the Kano State government would remain intact under any proposed alliance. He reiterated the need for clarity before making any move, stating that without concrete guarantees, there can be no discussion about defection. The loyalty of his supporters to the NNPP remains firm, pending any clear political safeguards.

The development comes as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, with various parties and alliances maneuvering ahead of future elections. Kwankwaso’s statement underscores the importance of political guarantees and the need for transparency in any potential alliances. As the NNPP leader weighs his options, the outcome of his decision is likely to have significant implications for the political landscape of Kano State and beyond. With the APC and other parties closely watching the situation, Kwankwaso’s next move is expected to be closely scrutinized by political observers and analysts.
