Yobe State University gets new Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammed Bashir

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has appointed Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu. The appointment was announced by the University’s Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, in a statement. According to Goniri, the appointment was approved following a recommendation by the Governing Council at its extraordinary meeting held on January 15, 2026.

Professor Tahir is a renowned Professor of General Surgery and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital in Damaturu. His extensive experience and expertise in the field of medicine are expected to contribute significantly to the university’s academic and research endeavors.

In a related development, the Governing Council also approved the appointment of Mallam Isa Audu Dallari as the substantive Registrar of Yobe State University, Damaturu. The appointment was made at the same extraordinary meeting, following a recommendation by the Selection Committee in accordance with the Yobe State University Law, 2006 (as amended). Mallam Dallari currently serves as a Director of Administration at the university and brings a wealth of administrative experience to his new role.
