Lagos Tax Deadline: Employers Reminded to Submit Returns

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has issued a reminder to employers in the state regarding the upcoming deadline for submitting annual tax returns for the 2025 financial year. The deadline for submission is January 31, 2026, as stipulated by the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025.

According to Dr. Ayodele Subair, Executive Chairman of LIRS, employers are required to provide comprehensive details of employee emoluments and ensure that all applicable taxes are properly remitted. This directive emphasizes the importance of transparency and compliance with tax regulations. The LIRS chairman also warned that failure to comply with the deadline would result in statutory penalties, underscoring that tax filing is a mandatory obligation for all employers.

To facilitate a smooth submission process, the LIRS has introduced an electronic platform, known as the eTax platform, where all tax returns must be submitted. Manual submissions are no longer accepted, and employers are advised to take advantage of this digital channel to avoid any delays or complications.

Dr. Subair encouraged employers to file their tax returns early and verify the accuracy of their employees’ Tax Identification Numbers to avoid any errors or discrepancies. For those who require assistance, the LIRS has established official channels to provide support and guidance throughout the submission process.

The LIRS’ reminder serves as a timely notice for employers to review their tax obligations and ensure compliance with the relevant regulations. As the deadline approaches, it is essential for employers to prioritize their tax submissions and seek help when needed to avoid any potential penalties. By doing so, they can contribute to the state’s revenue and support the development of public services and infrastructure in Lagos State. The LIRS’ efforts to promote tax compliance and transparency are crucial in maintaining a fair and efficient tax system, and employers are urged to cooperate fully with these initiatives.
