APC Leaders Warn of Infighting Ahead of 2027 Elections

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos East Senatorial District have expressed concern over internal divisions within the party, warning that persistent infighting could undermine its prospects in the 2027 general elections. This warning was issued during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lagos, where Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, called for unity among party members.

The meeting, attended by key party stakeholders, including former Senator Olorunnibe Mamora and council chairmen from the district, highlighted the need for reconciliation efforts to address unresolved grievances among aggrieved members. Abiru emphasized that party unity is essential as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, stressing that the APC must present a united front to secure a second-term mandate for President Bola Tinubu.

Ojelabi described Lagos East as a stronghold of dedicated party members but expressed concern over a decline in discipline among leaders and members, warning that indiscipline could stall collective achievements. He emphasized the importance of discipline, stating that “without it, we will achieve nothing.” Ojelabi also called on council chairmen and party leaders to encourage residents to participate in the ongoing APC e-registration exercise to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure.

Former Senator Mamora warned the party against complacency, citing the experience of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which lost control after 16 years in power. He emphasized the need for members to support leaders and for leaders to fulfill their responsibilities to party members. The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan-Olowa, also decried the impact of internal conflicts on political development in Lagos East, calling for council chairmen to re-strategize and remain united.

The meeting drew attendance from key party stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, and members of the House of Representatives. The warnings issued during the meeting highlight the need for the APC to address its internal divisions and present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections. With the party’s prospects hanging in the balance, the ability of its leaders to reconcile differences and promote unity will be crucial in determining its success in the upcoming elections.
