Tinubu ends Abu Dhabi sustainability trip

President Bola Tinubu has concluded his participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, a prestigious annual summit focused on climate action, energy transition, and global partnerships. The President departed the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, returning to Nigeria after a week of intensive diplomatic engagements.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, held from January 11 to 15, brought together global leaders, policymakers, investors, and innovators to promote sustainable development, renewable energy solutions, and climate resilience. President Tinubu attended the summit at the invitation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, highlighting the deepening bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the UAE, particularly in green energy and economic cooperation.

During the summit, President Tinubu delivered Nigeria’s national statement, reaffirming the country’s commitment to climate action, expanded energy access, job creation, and social inclusion. He outlined key domestic reforms, including the Electricity Act of 2023, which supports decentralized energy solutions for rural communities and underserved areas. The President also emphasized the importance of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, in improving power grid efficiency and accelerating the deployment of sustainable energy systems.

A major diplomatic milestone of the visit was the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Nigeria and the UAE on January 13. The agreement, witnessed by President Tinubu and UAE leaders, is expected to strengthen trade ties, attract investment, and enhance collaboration in sustainable sectors.

President Tinubu’s visit to the UAE followed his recent trip to Europe, where he held talks with several world leaders, including Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron. The President’s participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week underscores Nigeria’s commitment to addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development.

The CEPA signing and President Tinubu’s engagement with global leaders at the summit demonstrate the country’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships and attract investment in key sectors. As Nigeria continues to navigate the global landscape, the outcomes of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week are expected to have significant implications for the country’s economic and environmental development.
