Tijaniyya Islamic Sect Celebrates Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass Maulud

A massive gathering of approximately 3 million followers of the Tijaniyya Islamic Sect converged on Katsina, Nigeria, to celebrate the Maulud of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass in 2026. The event, organized by the “Majma’u Ahbab Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass,” took place at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, with attendees from across the country and West and North African nations.

According to the Chairman of the organizing committee, Sheikh Muhammad Hadi-Balarabe, the event was expected to draw around 4 million guests from the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and neighboring countries. The influx of visitors led to a surge in demand for accommodation, with almost all hotel rooms in Katsina metropolis fully booked. Some residents offered their unoccupied houses to visitors, demonstrating the city’s hospitality.

Despite the cold weather, many attendees who could not afford hotel rooms slept in the stadium, which was filled to capacity by 9 am. The dual carriage road leading to the venue was also packed with people. The event presented opportunities for local traders, who sold food, water, soft drinks, and other items, generating significant business.

Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru-Bauchi addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to the Katsina State Government for hosting the event and praying for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in the state and the country. The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, urged Muslims to adhere to the commandments of their creator, seek forgiveness, and follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda thanked the organizers for choosing the state to host the 2026 Maulud and appreciated the scholars’ prayers for peace and stability. He noted that the state was gradually experiencing a return to peace, thanks to such prayers. Sheikh Mahi Ibrahim-Nyass, representing his brother, prayed for the soul of the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi and urged Muslims worldwide to remain united and uphold their faith.

The event culminated in a special prayer for Katsina, Nigeria, and its leaders, reinforcing the significance of unity, peace, and stability in the region. The successful hosting of the 2026 Maulud underscores the importance of religious gatherings in promoting social cohesion and economic activity, with potential long-term benefits for the local community and the country at large.
