Falcons hire Kevin Stefanski as new coach amid criticism

The Atlanta Falcons have appointed Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach, following his dismissal by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month after a six-season tenure and a 45-56 record. Stefanski’s hiring has sparked mixed reactions, with some critics questioning the decision.

Veteran analyst Skip Bayless expressed his disapproval on social media, stating that the Falcons made a “big mistake” by hiring Stefanski, citing his overrated reputation, inability to connect with players, and arrogant demeanor. Several fans also shared similar sentiments, criticizing the Falcons’ decision.

Stefanski will succeed Raheem Morris, who was fired after two seasons with a 16-18 record. The Falcons finished the 2025 season with an 8-9 record, winning their last four games, and were tied with the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the top spot in the NFC South. However, they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Despite the criticism, Stefanski expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating that he is “beyond thrilled” to lead the iconic franchise. He expressed gratitude to the team’s owner, Arthur Blank, and former quarterback Matt Ryan, for trusting him with the position. Stefanski also highlighted the talented players on the roster and shared his vision for the team, which he believes will make Falcons fans proud.

Stefanski becomes the Falcons’ third coach in four years, and his appointment marks a new chapter for the team. Prior to his hiring, Stefanski had meetings lined up with other NFL teams, including the Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins. However, after a meeting with Arthur Blank, the Falcons were convinced that Stefanski was the right fit for the position.

The Falcons last made the playoffs in the 2017 season, and Stefanski will be tasked with ending the postseason drought in his first year. With his experience and new coaching staff, Stefanski is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team and work towards achieving their goals. As the NFL season approaches, fans will be watching closely to see how Stefanski’s tenure unfolds and whether he can lead the Falcons to success.
