Kevin Federline has addressed speculation that the timing of his upcoming memoir, *You Thought You Knew*, is linked to the end of child‑support payments from his ex‑wife, Britney Spears. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said that while he hopes the book will be successful, “money is not at the root of this story, [and] it never has been.” The memoir, a 228‑page account of his life written from his own perspective, is scheduled for release on October 21, 2025.

Federline shares two sons with Spears—Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. He explained that the project has been years in the making because he wanted his children to be old enough to understand its intent. “Everything has always been about my family,” he emphasized, noting that the book is meant for his children and those closest to them rather than a profit‑driven venture.

His net worth is estimated at $700,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Federline’s entertainment career spans music, modeling, and television; he first gained fame as a backup dancer for artists such as Michael Jackson, Pink, and Destiny’s Child. His marriage to Spears from 2004 to 2007 thrust him further into the public eye. After their separation, Spears reportedly paid him $20,000 per month in spousal and child support, later increasing to about $40,000. Until their younger son turned 18 in September 2024, Spears paid an estimated $5 million in total child support.

Federline clarified that his memoir is not a reaction to Spears’ 2023 memoir, *The Woman in Me*, but an attempt to tell his story from his own perspective. A source close to him said he spent three or four years working on the book to provide fans with “his side of the story in depth.” Nevertheless, controversy resurfaced when Spears’ representative accused Federline of “profiting off her” with the memoir’s release, emphasizing that Spears prioritizes her children’s well‑being above all.

Federline expressed concern for his sons, noting that he has not spoken directly to Spears “in years” and learns about her through their children. He admitted being “terrified” that his sons might one day have to confront unimaginable challenges and wishes their mother would seek help. The release of *You Thought You Knew* follows a long career marked by public scrutiny and family‑centered narratives. Despite attention to his financial history and Spears’ child‑support payments, Federline maintains that the memoir is a personal account written for his children and close friends, not a money‑making project.
