Nigerian Army officers charged to remain professional and loyal

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has urged Nigerian Army officers and soldiers to maintain professionalism, discipline, and loyalty to their service ideals in 2026. The governor made this call during the West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 celebration at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, Headquarters of the Nigerian Army 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Abia State.

Represented by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, Governor Otti commended the officers and soldiers of 14 Brigade for their steadfastness in discharging their constitutional responsibilities in 2025. He acknowledged their significant contributions to protecting lives and property, as well as maintaining peace and stability in Abia State and the country.

The governor noted that the cultural displays at the event reflected the diversity, unity, and strength of the Nigerian Army. The rich cultural heritage showcased at the event was a testament to the army’s ability to bring together people from different backgrounds.

In his welcome address, Brigade Commander Brigadier General H. M. Bello explained that WASA is a long-standing Nigerian Army tradition aimed at fostering unity among officers, soldiers, and their families. The event also serves as an opportunity to refocus on tasks ahead. Brigadier General Bello disclosed that the origins of WASA date back to the British colonial era, when recruits from diverse traditional backgrounds joined the military.

The Brigade Commander noted that continuous operations within the Brigade’s area of responsibility have significantly reduced security threats and restored public confidence. He assured that the Brigade would continue to work in synergy with other security agencies to discharge its constitutional duties.

The WASA 2025 celebration provided a platform for the Nigerian Army to showcase its commitment to protecting the nation and promoting unity among its personnel. As the army looks to 2026, Governor Otti’s call for professionalism, discipline, and loyalty is a reminder of the importance of upholding the highest standards of service. The Nigerian Army’s ability to maintain peace and stability will remain crucial in the coming year, and events like WASA serve as a testament to its dedication to this goal.
