Adamawa Begins Screening Candidates for July LG Elections

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission has commenced the screening of candidates for the upcoming local government elections, scheduled to take place on July 11 across the state’s 21 local government areas. The current council officials, who were elected on July 13, 2024, will complete their tenure on July 12, paving the way for the new elections.

The screening exercise, which is currently underway for candidates from the African Democratic Congress and the Social Democratic Party, will be extended to other participating parties, including the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the main opposition All Progressives Congress. The Chairman of the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Muhammed Madagali, has assured all stakeholders of the commission’s commitment to fairness and strict adherence to the electoral laws.

According to Alhaji Madagali, all necessary preparations have been completed ahead of the screening, including the verification of candidates’ documents and adequate security arrangements to ensure a smooth and orderly process. He has urged all participants to comply with the electoral guidelines and cooperate fully with officials to guarantee a successful exercise.
