Former Indian cricketer Varun Aaron has shed light on the unique batting technique of Hardik Pandya, which sets him apart from other Indian batters. According to Aaron, Pandya’s ability to keep his top half of the body side-on while opening up the bottom half is a distinctive feature of his batting style. This allows him to generate immense power and access deliveries on both sides of the wicket.
India is set to face New Zealand in a five-match T20I series, starting with the first game in Nagpur on January 21. Hardik Pandya, who was in impressive form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, will look to continue his momentum against the Kiwis. During a discussion on the Star Sports show ‘Game Plan,’ Aaron highlighted Pandya’s unique technique, which involves planting his back foot deep in the crease.
Aaron explained that Pandya’s ability to keep his bottom half open and his top half side-on gives him a significant advantage. This stance allows him to generate hip and shoulder separation, resulting in added twisting power. Additionally, Pandya’s technique enables him to access deliveries on the off side with ease, making him a formidable opponent for bowlers.
Pandya’s impressive T20I record, with 2,002 runs at a strike rate of 143.51, is a testament to his batting prowess. He has also shown his ability to perform under pressure, scoring 302 runs at a strike rate of 153.29 in 12 T20I innings in 2022. Aaron noted that Pandya is equally adept at handling deliveries of all lines and lengths, making him a dangerous batsman to face.
The former Indian pacer also observed that Pandya’s stance often deceives bowlers into believing that he won’t be able to score against wider deliveries. However, Pandya’s ability to stay side-on with his top half allows him to get his hands through and access the off side with ease. With 106 sixes, Pandya has struck the fourth-most maximums for India in T20Is, behind only Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli.
As India prepares to face New Zealand in the T20I series, Pandya’s unique batting technique and impressive record make him a key player to watch. His ability to adapt to different bowling styles and conditions will be crucial in determining the outcome of the series. With his powerful batting and all-round skills, Pandya is poised to play a significant role in India’s campaign against the Kiwis.
