The Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has condemned the recent mass abduction of Christian worshippers in Kajuru local government area. On January 19, 2026, bandits abducted approximately 170 worshippers from three church services, with six managing to escape and return home with injuries after being beaten.
According to Rev. Caleb Ma’aji Bawa, the state CAN chairman, the incident is “regrettable, shameful, and disappointing,” particularly given efforts by governments to ensure public safety. He expressed concern that such incidents occur despite measures to maintain security, highlighting the presence of “miscreants and criminals” who engage in harmful activities without regard for human life.
Rev. Bawa prayed for the safe return of those kidnapped and called for divine intervention to end the wave of kidnappings and criminal activities across the country. He emphasized the need for citizens to collaborate with the government and security personnel to expose and condemn criminal elements, stating that collective action is necessary to prevent such acts and achieve societal stability.
The CAN chairman commended security personnel for their efforts to neutralize threats and urged them to remain vigilant in uncovering plans by those who seek to destabilize the country.
