ADC Chieftain Slams Suspension of Nasarawa Chairman

A prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State, Muhammad Bose, has expressed strong reservations about the suspension of the party’s state chairman, Godwin Alaku Williams. Bose described the action as unjust and ill-timed, stating that it could damage the party’s unity.

The suspension, which was reportedly due to alleged anti-party activities, has sparked controversy within the party. Bose, a leading figure from Doma South, questioned the rationale behind the decision, particularly given the upcoming party congress. He argued that Williams should have been allowed to participate in the congress and potentially face replacement through a proper democratic process.

Bose dismissed allegations of anti-party conduct, citing the example of the last general election, where party members were free to make individual choices without being accused of disloyalty. He noted that he personally voted for candidates from the ADC platform, including Buhari Usman for the State Assembly and Atala Yusuf for the House of Representatives.

The ADC chieftain warned that internal injustices could lead to deeper divisions and weaken the party’s prospects. He drew parallels with past leadership crises in other parties, where repeated suspensions and internal purges had caused lasting damage. Bose cautioned that the ADC should avoid repeating the same mistakes, citing the example of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under former state chairman Orogu.

Bose emphasized that his stance was based on principle, rather than personal loyalty, as he claimed to have no personal relationship with the suspended chairman. He stated that he was motivated by a commitment to fairness and a desire to prevent harm to the party.

The suspension of Godwin Alaku Williams has generated significant controversy within the ADC in Nasarawa State. The party’s leadership suspended him for 14 days over alleged involvement in anti-party activities. The decision has been met with criticism from some party members, who argue that it could undermine the party’s unity and prospects.

The ADC is one of the major political parties in Nigeria, and its internal dynamics are closely watched by political observers. The party has been working to strengthen its presence in Nasarawa State, and the current controversy surrounding the suspension of its state chairman has raised concerns about its ability to present a united front ahead of future elections. As the party prepares for its upcoming congress, it remains to be seen how the situation will be resolved and what impact it will have on the party’s future prospects.
