The Ogun State Government has emphasized the importance of effective communication between pharmacists and patients to achieve optimal pharmaceutical care and prevent complications. This advice was given at a two-day training session for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in secondary health facilities across the state. The event, held at the Pharmacy House in Abeokuta, aimed to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in providing quality pharmaceutical services.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Hospitals Management Board, Olayinka Elemide, commended pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for their role in promoting healthy living and productive lives among state residents through proper drug dispensing and patient education. Elemide’s remarks were in line with the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare services, as embodied in Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA mantra.

The training session focused on the theme “Achieving Optimum Pharmaceutical Care and Effective DRF Management.” A retired Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Olusola Amoo, highlighted the evolving nature of pharmaceutical services and the need for pharmacists to adapt their service delivery accordingly. Amoo stressed the importance of monitoring drug therapy effects on patients and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.

The Director of Pharmaceutical Services of the Board, Pharm Opeyemi Kayode, welcomed participants and emphasized the significance of the training in enhancing their professional skills. Two participants, Rose Olufunso and Adewale Faleti, expressed their appreciation for the training opportunity, noting that they had gained new insights into their profession that would improve their service delivery to the people of Ogun State.

The training session reflects the state government’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare system and provide quality services to its residents. By equipping pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with the necessary skills and knowledge, the government aims to promote effective pharmaceutical care and improve health outcomes in the state. As the healthcare sector continues to evolve, the importance of ongoing training and professional development for healthcare professionals cannot be overstated.
