Seplat Energy appoints Tony Elumelu as Director

Seplat Energy Appoints Tony Elumelu as Non-Executive Director

The Board of Seplat Energy has announced the appointment of Tony Elumelu as a Non-Executive Director, effective January 22, 2026. This development follows the resignation of Olivier Cleret De Langavant, who had served as a Non-Executive Director since January 28, 2020. Langavant’s resignation is linked to the sale of Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA’s 20.07% shareholding in Seplat to a combination of Heirs Holdings Limited and Heirs Energies Limited.

During his tenure, Langavant provided strategic technical counsel and invaluable insights that supported the company’s progress. The Board expressed its gratitude for his exceptional service and welcomed Elumelu to the Board. Elumelu is a renowned African investor and philanthropist, recognized globally for his efforts in promoting Africa’s transformation agenda.

As the Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Elumelu has interests in key sectors of the African economy, including energy, power, banking, and healthcare. He also serves as Chairman of United Bank for Africa Group and Transcorp Group, among other organizations. In 2010, he established The Tony Elumelu Foundation, a leading philanthropy dedicated to empowering African entrepreneurs.

Elumelu’s appointment is expected to significantly advance Seplat Energy’s strategic objectives and reinforce the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and long-term success. The Board is confident that his extensive experience and visionary leadership will be invaluable assets to the company.

Seplat Energy’s Chairman, Udoma Udo Udoma, expressed his appreciation to Langavant for his outstanding contribution to the company and welcomed Elumelu to the Board. Udoma noted that Elumelu’s wealth of experience and leadership would be instrumental in driving the company’s strategic initiatives and pursuing sustainable growth and value creation for all stakeholders.

The appointment of Tony Elumelu as a Non-Executive Director marks a significant development for Seplat Energy, as the company continues to navigate the evolving energy landscape and pursue its strategic objectives. With Elumelu’s expertise and leadership on board, the company is well-positioned to drive growth and create value for its stakeholders.
