Kwankwaso Loyalist Sacked in Kano

A recent development in Kano State’s political landscape has sparked controversy, as Governor Abba Yusuf has sacked his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Sunusi Surajo, a loyalist of former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. Surajo’s dismissal comes on the heels of Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP.

The governor has since appointed Mustapha Bakwana, a former Special Adviser to ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as Surajo’s replacement. This move has been met with criticism from Austin Okai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC. Okai expressed his concerns on social media, stating that the hard-fought mandate of Kwankwaso is being handed over to Ganduje, a known rival of Kwankwaso.

The development is significant, given the history of political tensions between Kwankwaso and Ganduje. Kwankwaso had supported Governor Yusuf’s candidacy, and his efforts were instrumental in delivering Yusuf’s victory. However, with Yusuf’s recent decision to appoint a former aide of Ganduje, it appears that the governor is shifting his allegiance.

The appointment of Bakwana as the new Special Adviser on Political Matters has raised eyebrows, as it is seen as a move to consolidate power and forge an alliance with Ganduje. Okai’s criticism highlights the complexities of Nigerian politics, where alliances are often forged and broken, and loyalty is a valuable commodity.

The situation in Kano State is being closely watched, as it may have implications for the state’s political landscape and the future of the NNPP. The party’s fortunes have been closely tied to Kwankwaso’s influence, and Yusuf’s decision to distance himself from his former mentor may have far-reaching consequences. As the political drama unfolds, it remains to be seen how the situation will play out and what impact it will have on the state’s governance and political stability.
