The Lagos State Government has partnered with MTN Nigeria to redevelop the Obalende under-bridge, transforming it into a modern transport hub known as Y’ELLO Bus Park. According to Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the project aims to convert the previously notorious area into a functional, secure, and community-centered facility.
The redevelopment will feature an organized and regulated transport terminal, a recycling drop-off station, and a road camp for sweepers and security agencies. Additionally, the park will include over 60 public toilet fixtures, kiosks, and other essential amenities designed to serve commuters and residents. The design prioritizes safety, health, and aesthetics, with solar-powered lighting to improve nighttime visibility and enhance CCTV effectiveness.
The project also includes the introduction of a biodigester system to sustainably manage wastewater generated within the park, as well as a dedicated recycling station to discourage illegal waste disposal. In line with the government’s commitment to climate responsibility, solar panels will be installed to support long-term energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint. Tree planting is also planned to improve air quality and enhance the visual appeal of the environment.
The Y’ELLO Bus Park is expected to become a model for sustainable and community-centered urban development in Lagos. The project reflects the government’s resolve to reclaim public spaces, make them functional, sustainable, and safe, and ensure they serve the needs of Lagosians in a modern and responsible way. With its focus on safety, sustainability, and community engagement, the Y’ELLO Bus Park is set to become a hub of activity in the Obalende area, providing a convenient and secure transport terminal for commuters and residents alike.
The partnership between the Lagos State Government and MTN Nigeria demonstrates the potential for collaboration between public and private sector entities to drive urban development and improve the quality of life for citizens. As the project progresses, it is expected to have a positive impact on the local community, providing jobs, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the area. With its innovative design and sustainable features, the Y’ELLO Bus Park is poised to become a landmark in Lagos, showcasing the city’s commitment to modern, responsible, and community-centered development.
