The Osun State Local Government Service Commission has announced a new redeployment of senior council administrators across the state’s local governments. In a letter dated January 26, 2026, the Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mudashir Oyedeji, instructed five Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) to resume duties at their new postings immediately.
The affected officials, who were previously serving in various Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), have been reassigned to either full-fledged local government councils or different administrative units. Notably, Yakubu Adekunle Oni has been transferred from Irewole North East LCDA to Boripe Local Government Area, while Bolaji Wasiu Ayoola, Emmanuel Oluwole Ademokoya, Adebisi Lateef Kayode, and Isaac Tope Akinwumi have also been posted to new locations.
According to the deployment schedule, Ayoola has been posted from Ife South West LCDA to Ola-Oluwa Local Government, Ademokoya from Oriade South LCDA to Atakumosa East Local Government, Kayode from Ede East LCDA to Oriade Local Government, and Akinwumi from Egbedore South LCDA to Ife East Central LCDA. The Commission did not provide reasons for the redeployment or indicate the fate of officers previously overseeing the councils to which the new HLAs have been posted.
The latest administrative action comes amidst a prolonged dispute between the Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the legitimacy of leadership in the state’s local councils. The APC has alleged that the exercise is designed to weaken the grip of elected council officials affiliated with the party, while supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke argue that the state government has the authority to deploy civil servants as the employer of labour.
The disagreement over local government control has persisted for months, with Governor Adeleke maintaining that the tenure of APC-elected chairmen and councillors expired in October 2025, a position the opposition party continues to contest in court. The redeployment is likely to further fuel the ongoing controversy, with the state government and the APC locked in a bitter struggle for control of the local councils. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the latest developments will impact the state’s local government administration and the ongoing political tensions.
