APC Governors Push for Transparency in Party Congresses

The Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) has emphasized the need for transparent and coordinated management of party congresses and the forthcoming national convention. This call was made by Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the Forum, following a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Abuja.

According to Uzodimma, transparency, consistency, and accountability are crucial in every stage of the process to foster trust and credibility within the party. He stressed that these standards should be applied uniformly across all states, including those where the party does not currently have governors. The PGF reaffirmed its commitment to party unity and internal harmony, emphasizing the importance of responsible leadership, clear communication, and collective discipline in strengthening public confidence in the party’s democratic processes.

The governors also welcomed a briefing on the national e-registration and digital membership update by the APC national chairman, which has recorded significant growth, increased youth participation, and integration of the National Identity Number. This initiative is expected to enhance data-driven planning, improve demographic insights, and strengthen grassroots engagement across communities.

The PGF endorsed the timetable and institutional framework approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for upcoming congresses and the convention. Uzodimma commended the party leadership under National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda for guiding the process. The governors also confirmed strategic engagements and state visits to reinforce grassroots structures and party cohesion, with visits scheduled to begin in Taraba on January 31.

The PGF formally welcomed the governors of Taraba and Plateau into the Forum and reaffirmed its resolve to partner with the APC leadership to advance national development, democratic consolidation, and people-centered governance. Uzodimma expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the governors would continue to partner with him to ensure good governance at all levels.

The call for transparent and coordinated management of party congresses and the national convention is significant, as it underscores the importance of internal democracy and accountability within the party. The PGF’s commitment to deepening internal democracy, strengthening party structures, and advancing reforms promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness is expected to have a positive impact on the party’s democratic processes and overall governance in Nigeria.
