ley Ontop Alarms Angela Okorie Re-Arrest After Release

ollywood actor Stanley Ontop has alleged that Nigerian police are preparing to re-arrest actress Angela Okorie immediately upon her release from Suleja Prison, despite a court granting her bail in a defamation case.

Okorie was remanded in Suleja Prison last week following an arrest related to allegations of defaming fellow actress Mercy Johnson. On Friday, the Federal High Court in Abuja approved her bail application. However, her release was delayed pending the verification of her surety’s residential address, a standard procedural step.

In a social media post, Ontop claimed that officers have been stationed at the prison entrance in anticipation of a fresh petition against Okorie. He criticised the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as unprofessional conduct, questioning why arrest procedures were being used instead of a formal invitation. “Angela Okorie will be out in few minutes… We got an info that there’s a fresh petition against Angela Okorie and that some police men are stationed in front of Suleja Prison to apprehend her again immediately she’s released,” he wrote.

The development raises questions about the execution of judicial bail orders and potential overlaps in legal actions. Okorie’s initial detention stemmed from a complaint by Mercy Johnson, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s film industry. The alleged fresh petition introduces a new layer of legal jeopardy for the actress, who remains in custody as of this report.

The Nigeria Police Force has not officially commented on the claims of a planned re-arrest or the stationing of officers at the prison. The situation underscores ongoing concerns regarding procedural adherence in high-profile cases within the country’s criminal justice system.

Observers note that if a new petition exists, standard procedure would typically involve formal notification and a court appearance, not an immediate arrest upon release from a separate matter. The next step will be whether Okorie is released as scheduled and if any new legal action is formally brought before the courts.
