The death marks the end of a turbulent chapter for a figure once positioned as a potential successor and reformer within his father’s four-decade regime. Seif al-Islam Gadhafi, born in June 1972, held a PhD from the London School of Economics and frequently presented a modernizing face for Libya in international media prior to the 2011 uprising.
