Libyan officials confirmed the death of Seif al-Islam Gadhafi, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, in the town of Zintan on Tuesday. Circumstances surrounding his death remain unconfirmed by authorities, though local media reports indicate he was killed by armed men at his residence.
The death marks the end of a turbulent chapter for a figure once positioned as a potential successor and reformer within his father’s four-decade regime. Seif al-Islam Gadhafi, born in June 1972, held a PhD from the London School of Economics and frequently presented a modernizing face for Libya in international media prior to the 2011 uprising.
