A recent release of over three million US Justice Department documents has intensified public speculation regarding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s potential links to Israeli intelligence, specifically Mossad. While no conclusive evidence has been presented, the files detail Epstein’s extensive communications with prominent Israeli figures and include claims about a global blackmail operation.
The documents reveal sustained contact between Epstein and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Emails show Barak visited Epstein’s New York residence over 30 times between 2013 and 2017. Yoni Koren, a former Israeli intelligence officer and Barak aide, also stayed at Epstein’s townhouse for extended periods. Furthermore, records indicate Epstein attempted to coordinate a meeting involving then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Barclays CEO Jes Staley, and investor Jacob Frenkel.
Epstein’s connections to the Rothschild banking dynasty are also documented. A 2016 email to tech entrepreneur Peter Thiel states Epstein represented the Rothschilds in potential tech investments. Epstein corresponded with Ariane de Rothschild, CEO of the Edmond de Rothschild Group, meeting more than a dozen times and securing a $25 million contract for algorithmic services. Separate exchanges detail Apollo Global Management’s discussions with the Rothschild group on financial product cooperation.
Allegations of a Mossad-linked blackmail operation persist, rooted in claims by Epstein’s former associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Her father, media mogul Robert Maxwell—buried with Israeli state honors—was long suspected of espionage. A 2018 email recount claims Maxwell attempted to blackmail Mossad for £400 million before his death. An FBI memo references a person warning that Ghislaine Maxwell was a “spy” in 1982. Former Israeli intelligence officer Ari Ben-Menashe and journalist Whitney Webb have publicly argued Epstein’s trafficking ring functioned as a honeypot for foreign powers, with Israel at the center, a narrative Epstein denied before his 2019 death.
The files also contain inflammatory material, including a 2018 email where Epstein jokes about claims of Jewish global control, replying “guilty!” to a dinner conversation. Victim testimonies referenced in the release allege supremacist views within Epstein’s circle. Epstein’s long-term relationship with financier Les Wexner, who gave him power of attorney and a Manhattan mansion, connects to the Mega Group—a network of pro-Israel philanthropists. A 1997 NSA intercept reportedly linked “Mega” to potential Israeli intelligence activity, though no direct tie to Epstein was confirmed.
Israel has dismissed the Mossad allegations. The new document tranche does not provide definitive proof but markedly expands the record of Epstein’s proximity to political and financial elites with established Israeli ties. The volume of contact and the nature of the claims ensure the question of his intelligence connections will remain a subject of scrutiny and debate.
