The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical and intelligence assets to Kaiama community in Kwara State, following a violent attack that left at least 75 people dead.
The decision, announced by Force Public Relations Officer Acting ACP Benjamin Hundeyin in Abuja on Thursday, aims to restore calm, bolster security, and prevent further violence in the area. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) confirmed the assault occurred on Tuesday in Kaiama Local Government Area.
A comprehensive manhunt is now underway for the perpetrators and any individuals linked to the incident. Hundeyin stated that investigations have commenced, with all available resources mobilised to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible. The NPF vehemently condemned the attack.
The IGP has extended formal condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Kwara State Government and its people, over what he described as a painful and tragic incident. He reiterated the force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, pledging that the NPF “will continue to do everything necessary to guarantee the safety and security of all citizens.”
Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and support security operations by providing timely and credible information. Such information can be relayed at the nearest police station or through official police communication channels.
Kaiama, a community in Kwara’s northern district, has now become a focal point for intensified police operations after one of the deadliest incidents in the region recently. The deployment underscores federal efforts to quell instability and bring perpetrators to justice.
