The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted its National Campaign Council to oversee its strategy for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, scheduled for February 21, 2026.
The elections will be held across the FCT’s six area councils: Abaji, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali. In a statement on Sunday, the ruling party announced the full membership of the council, which will be formally inaugurated before the official campaign period begins.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq will chair the council, supported by three co-chairmen: Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma (Co-Chair I), Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni (Co-Chair II), and Niger State Governor Umar Bago (Co-Chair III). Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, is named Secretary, with Sanasi Evelyn as Assistant Secretary.
The council’s membership includes a broad spectrum of senior party figures. It features the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; and several state governors. These include Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi). The list also encompasses Governors Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Umar Radda (Katsina), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), among others.
The inauguration of the National Campaign Council is set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, at the National Working Committee Hall within the party’s National Secretariat at 40 Blantyre Street, Abuja.
This move formalizes the APC’s top-tier structure for a critical sub-national election within the nation’s capital. The deployment of multiple sitting governors and principal national officers underscores the party’s intent to consolidate its control in the FCT ahead of the 2026 polls. The council’s first major task following inauguration will be to coordinate the party’s campaign activities across all six area councils in the lead-up to the February election.
