Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has ordered free medical care for victims of a fatal road accident that occurred in the state’s Gezawa Local Government Area. The incident, which involved a trailer, resulted in at least 30 fatalities and left several others injured.
The crash took place at Kwanar Barde, a location known for its busy transit routes. Preliminary reports indicate the trailer was involved in a severe collision, though full details of the cause are still under investigation by relevant authorities.
In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
As part of the immediate state response, Governor Yusuf directed the Ministry of Health to guarantee that all injured victims receive comprehensive and cost-free treatment at government-approved health facilities across Kano. Additionally, he instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to mobilise swift support and assistance for the families of those who lost their lives.
Beyond the directaid, the governor used the moment to address broader road safety concerns. He strongly urged all motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid reckless driving behaviours. Governor Yusuf emphasised the critical importance of strict adherence to established traffic rules and regulations, stating that such discipline is essential to preventing future, avoidable loss of lives on the state’s roads.
