Osun Governor Adeleke Praises Oyinlola as Patriotic Democrat

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has hailed former governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola as a key figure in the state’s democratic development, crediting him with lasting contributions to governance and stability.

The tribute was delivered on Sunday at a ceremony in Ile-Ogbo, Osun State, marking Prince Oyinlola’s 75th birthday. Governor Adeleke, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Tax Matters, Kamarudeen Ajisafe, described the former governor as a “symbol of democracy and good governance” whose tenure included several landmark achievements.

According to the governor’s message, Prince Oyinlola’s influence extends beyond his time in office. “Prince Oyinlola has continued to play a stabilising role in public affairs,” the statement noted. “Locally and nationally, you remain a respected voice who continues to serve as a voice of stability and peaceful co-existence.” The governor specifically praised Oyinlola’s reconciliatory approach, saying he “de-escalates tension and brings people together for consensus” in conflict situations.

Governor Adeleke affirmed his administration’s recognition of Oyinlola’s broad impact, stating, “We value and honour you as a symbol of good governance and patriotic living.” He highlighted the former governor’s ongoing service as “an honest peacemaker and a dependable elder statesman,” adding that his leadership philosophy supports current development efforts in Osun State.

The governor reflected on a long personal acquaintance, calling Oyinlola “a genuine counsellor and an ardent supporter of good governance” who has earned his confidence over decades.

Prince Oyinlola served as governor of Osun State from 2003 to 2010. The birthday acknowledgment by his successor underscores the cross-party respect he commands and highlights the importance of experienced leadership in the state’s political landscape. The event in Ile-Ogbo served both as a personal celebration and a public affirmation of Oyinlola’s enduring role in Nigeria’s democratic journey, particularly within Osun State.
