Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission Processes 10,000 Daily Registrations After AI Integration

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) now processes approximately 10,000 business registration requests daily, a dramatic increase attributed to the successful integration of artificial intelligence across its service platforms. Registrar-General Hussaini Magaji announced the milestone during the commission’s 35th-anniversary lecture in Abuja, highlighting how AI has become essential for managing surging demand.

This sharp rise in applications follows recent tax reforms, government policies encouraging the formalisation of informal businesses, and the proliferation of digital and social media enterprises. Magaji noted that daily registrations have jumped from hundreds to nearly 10,000, with an additional 5,000 customer inquiries handled daily via email and call centres. He stressed that such volumes would be unmanageable without AI, which has improved speed, accuracy, and efficiency.

The CAC has transformed from a single manual office in 1991 into a fully digital, 24/7 global corporate registry. While acknowledging initial challenges during the 2025 transition to an AI-driven portal, Magaji confirmed that reforms are yielding positive results. He thanked the public for its patience and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to world-class service delivery.

A new collaboration with Google aims to strengthen CAC’s technological infrastructure, further improving portal performance, system reliability, and service turnaround times. Additionally, the commission has launched AI-powered tools on its redesigned website, including a legal assistant for regulatory queries and a business name generator to streamline the reservation process. These innovations are part of CAC’s broader push for transparency, efficiency, and national economic development.

Legislative and technical support is aligning behind these reforms. Ahmed Munir, Chairman of the House Committee on Commerce, pledged backing to enhance digital infrastructure and innovation, noting that CAC’s digital transformation has simplified registration and empowered entrepreneurs to move from the informal to the formal economy. Kashifu Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), also committed technical assistance, emphasizing that continuous innovation—particularly the ethical integration of AI—is vital for public sector transformation.

These coordinated efforts position Nigeria’s business registration system for sustained growth, reducing regulatory barriers and supporting the country’s ease of doing business agenda.
