APC Leaders in Nigeria’s Ogun East Endorse Governor Abiodun for 2027 Senate Seat
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Remo Division of Nigeria’s Ogun East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed state Governor Dapo Abiodun as the party’s preferred candidate for the 2027 Senate elections. The endorsement, formalised at a meeting of key party stakeholders on Tuesday, calls on the governor to contest the Ogun East seat.
The motion was moved by Chief Muri Awolaja, an apex party leader from Sagamu, who described Governor Abiodun as an achiever and a “true son of Remoland and Ogun East,” citing his qualifications to represent the district in the National Assembly. It was seconded by Dapo Odunsi, a former chairman of Remo North Local Government. Supporting the call, local government chairmen Hon. Muyiwa Sodade (Remo North) and Hon. Jamiu Asimi (Ikenne) urged the governor to heed the people’s request, stating that grassroots sentiment strongly favours his candidacy as recognition for his developmental work.
The formal announcement was delivered by Chief Kola Ogunjobi, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), in the presence of prominent APC figures including the Ogun East APC Chairman Chief Adeleke Adedoyin, apex leader Otunba Dapo Osho, and several commissioners and special advisers. Ogunjobi stated that the decision followed extensive deliberations on party unity and a careful review of the Abiodun administration’s performance.
He highlighted the governor’s record, noting the construction of over 1,600 kilometres of roads in six years, completion of the Gateway International Airport, and reforms that attracted more than 70 per cent of Nigeria’s new manufacturing companies to Ogun State. “Governor Dapo Abiodun’s performance in governance and development has exceeded expectations,” Ogunjobi said. “His achievements across infrastructure, education, security, and investment make him the ideal candidate.”
Party officials from all three local government areas in Remo Division—including chairmen, vice-chairmen, and secretaries—were present and pledged full mobilisation and grassroots support to secure the Senate seat should the governor confirm his interest. They expressed pride in Abiodun’s accomplishments and resolved to lead the campaign for his emergence as the APC’s 2027 candidate for Ogun East.
The endorsement signals strong intra-party support ahead of the next electoral cycle, positioning the incumbent governor for a potential return to the legislature he previously served in before becoming state chief executive. A formal declaration from Governor Abiodun is now awaited.
