Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged sustained administrative support for the state’s young population, linking their active participation directly to economic growth and sustainable development. The assurance was delivered during a meeting on Friday with members of the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the governor’s office.
According to a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf designated the current year as a period focused on youth development. He emphasized that meaningful progress in Kano State is contingent upon involving young people in governance and economic planning. His administration’s strategy centres on empowering youth and increasing their representation in decision-making roles.
A key component of this approach is political appointment. Governor Yusuf stated that approximately 40 per cent of all political appointments in his administration have been allocated to young individuals. These positions include roles such as commissioners, directors-general, and managing directors. He argued that placing youths in leadership and management positions is essential for advancing the state’s economy and overall development trajectory.
Earlier during the visit, the APC National Youth Leader, Mr. Dayo Israel, thanked Governor Yusuf for his backing of the Youth Progressive Summit, recently held at the Kano Government House. Israel described the governor as a leader genuinely committed to youth-driven development and pledged the continued support of the APC’s youth wing for government programmes aimed at improving young people’s livelihoods.
The meeting underscores a strategic effort to integrate Kano’s large youth demographic into the state’s political and economic frameworks. By highlighting specific appointment percentages and aligning youth empowerment with economic objectives, Governor Yusuf’s administration is positioning youth inclusion as a central pillar of its governance agenda for Kano State.
