KHAIRUN in Kano Unveils 32 State-of-the-Art Labs in Two Years

Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), a private institution in Kano State, Nigeria, has completed the full upgrade of 32 practical laboratories, marking a significant infrastructure achievement just two years after its launch. The development, part of a larger project to establish 45 teaching and research laboratories, positions the university as a rapidly growing centre for science and technology education in northern Nigeria.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdulrashid Garba announced the milestone during a press conference at the university’s Kano campus. He confirmed that 32 of the planned 45 laboratories are now fully operational with state-of-the-art equipment, while the remaining 13 are at various stages of completion. The vice chancellor described the scale and pace of this laboratory rollout as unprecedented for a private university in Kano State.

The upgraded facilities span a wide range of disciplines. Fully functional labs include core science subjects like Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Electronics, alongside specialised units such as Cyber Security, Software and Hardware laboratories, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Forensic Science. Medical sciences are supported by Anatomy, Physiology, Radiology, Chemical Pathology, and Ultrasound labs. Additional dedicated spaces include an Image Processing Laboratory, a Dark Room, and a Radio-Physics Laboratory.

KHAIRUN currently offers 16 academic programmes across three faculties: Science and Computing, Allied Medical Sciences, and Engineering. The university hosts approximately 1,300 students, with female students constituting 65 per cent of the enrolment. Prof. Garba noted that about 507 students benefit from a comprehensive scholarship covering all fees from the ASR Africa Initiative, an affiliate of the BUA Group. Management scholarships are also awarded to top-performing students.

The institution’s governance includes an Office of the Proprietors led by Alhaji Anwar Isyaku Rabiu, a Board of Trustees chaired by Emeritus Professor Muhammad Sani Zahraddeen, and a Governing Council chaired by Professor Kabiru Isyaku.

Commissioned in 2024, KHAIRUN’s rapid infrastructural development within its first two years underscores its commitment to providing quality teaching and research environments. The extensive laboratory network is central to this mission, aiming to support high-demand STEM and medical programmes and contribute to regional educational and industrial capacity building.
