Meurer Reacts to Backlash Over Changing Tonto Dikeh Claims

Nollywood actress Rosy Meurer has addressed renewed public criticism following inconsistent statements regarding her past relationship with actress Tonto Dikeh and her marriage to businessman Olakunle Churchill.

The controversy stems from conflicting accounts Meurer has given over several years. Initially, she denied any personal acquaintance with Dikeh during Dikeh’s marriage to Churchill. Subsequently, in a past video, Meurer described Churchill and Dikeh as “family friends” and acknowledged they had socialised together. This earlier account contradicted her initial denial and fueled speculation about her role in the couple’s 2017 divorce, which was reportedly linked to Churchill’s alleged affair with Meurer, who was then considered Dikeh’s close friend.

In 2021, four years after the divorce, Meurer married Churchill. The marriage immediately sparked widespread social media debate, with many accusing her of being involved in the dissolution of Dikeh’s marriage.

On Wednesday, Meurer released a new Instagram video reiterating that she had no prior personal relationship with Dikeh. This latest denial, conflicting with her earlier “family friend” statement, triggered a wave of backlash for perceived inconsistency.

Responding to the criticism, Meurer posted a lengthy explanation on Instagram. She attributed her previous “family friend” comment to pressure from her management team at the time. “I was dragged into violence by force. With all the pressure then, PR team will make you say many things even if you don’t feel it is right,” she stated. She asserted that her current statement represents her “real truth,” claiming she is now older, wiser, and free from such pressures. “No PR team can force me to say what they believed is better than my truth,” she added.

The situation highlights the persistent public scrutiny surrounding the high-profile fallout between Dikeh and Churchill, and the extended controversy ignited by Meurer’s subsequent marriage to Churchill. Her shifting explanations have kept the narrative active on social media, underscoring the challenges public figures face in managing personal history under intense public and media scrutiny in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. The discourse continues as audiences debate the credibility of her revised account.
