NAHCON Saudi Deadlines Bar Late 2026 Hajj Pilgrims

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has moved to reassure Nigerian pilgrims, stating that the reduced quota for the 2026 Hajj and strict financial deadlines imposed by Saudi Arabian authorities are the primary reasons some intending pilgrims may not secure a spot, and that no further allocations are possible this cycle.

The clarification follows concerns among some state-sponsored pilgrims about their participation in the upcoming religious duty. NAHCON explained that Nigeria’s official Hajj quota was reduced to 50,000 pilgrims by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. In response, the Commission implemented a first-come, first-served allocation system based solely on confirmed payments to its designated account.

A critical deadline of January 2, 2026, was set, aligned with Saudi operational calendars and portal requirements. States that remitted full payments on or before this date secured camp accommodations. NAHCON noted that a few states, including Kaduna and Niger, later received limited additional slots through an internal reallocation process, which diverted capacity from states that had overpaid relative to their initial allocations.

However, the Commission stressed that the January deadline was firm and widely communicated. It cautioned that Saudi Hajj portals closed for new entries shortly after, preventing the acceptance of any further registrations or payments, even after NAHCON’s subsequent request for additional slots was approved by Saudi authorities. The closure of these operational systems made processing new entries impossible.

NAHCON confirmed it had repeatedly warned stakeholders against late registration and payments, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s strict enforcement of timelines. The Commission appealed to affected intending pilgrims to remain patient, assuring them that all official updates would be disseminated promptly through proper channels. The statement underscores the finality of the current allocation process and the non-negotiable nature of Saudi Hajj administrative schedules.
