Ronaldo Declares Saudi Arabia Loyalty, Stays in Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Al-Nassr and the Saudi Pro League, stating he “belongs to Saudi Arabia” and wishes to continue his career in the kingdom. The Al-Nassr captain made the declaration amidst persistent speculation linking him with a departure at the end of the current season.

Ronaldo’s comments follow recent reports suggesting he was unhappy with the club’s transfer activity, even engaging in a brief protest strike earlier in the campaign. However, his stance appears to have shifted. He expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for the welcome extended to him and his family, stating his happiness and desire to remain.

“It’s a country that welcomed me, as well as my family and friends. I’m happy here and want to continue here,” Ronaldo said, as reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 39-year-old forward delivered a timely on-pitch performance to underscore his statement. On Saturday, he scored two goals for Al-Nassr in a commanding 4-0 victory over Al-Hazem, with Kingsley Coman and Ângelo Gabriel adding the other goals.

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in a landmark move in December 2022, bringing global attention to the Saudi Pro League. His initial high-profile signing was part of a broader strategy by Saudi clubs to attract elite talent. His continued presence is considered significant for the league’s sporting and commercial development, providing star power and experience.

His direct rebuttal of exit rumours suggests a clearer path forward for both player and club as the season progresses. The statement aims to quell speculation and signal his focus on contributing to Al-Nassr’s objectives. For the Saudi Pro League, retaining a player of Ronaldo’s calibre reinforces its growing ambition on the international stage. The coming months will determine if his commitment translates into a long-term future in Riyadh beyond his current contract.
