APC Ikorodu Consensus on LGA Executives, Convention

Stakeholders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu, a major division within Lagos State, have agreed on consensus candidates for Local Government Area (LGA) executive positions and the party’s forthcoming National Convention. This development注重内部团结,旨在为即将到来的选举周期做好准备。

The agreement was concluded during a party congress on Saturday at the APC secretariat in Ota-Ona, Ikorodu. The session involved delegates and members discussing nominations for both local and national leadership roles.

During the congress, Gbenga Oshin, Chairman of the Screening Committee, stressed the importance of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for participating in Nigeria’s elections. He urged members to safeguard their PVCs and to conduct themselves peacefully and lawfully throughout any electoral process. His address highlighted the party’s focus on voter registration and adherence to electoral guidelines, which are critical in Nigeria’s democratic system.

Earlier, the PVC Secretary of the Screening Committee praised the electorate for endorsing a consensus approach that ratified incumbent executives. “We followed a consensus approach, and the electorate endorsed it. Those who have previously served were ratified because the people trust in their leadership,” the Secretary stated, underscoring confidence in current leadership.

Party member Shakiru Oluwo also affirmed support for the selected executives, commending their track record and dedication to promoting the APC’s goals at the local government level. His remarks reinforced the narrative of unity and continuity within the division.

This consensus is significant against the backdrop of Nigerian politics, where the APC, as one of the nation’s dominant parties, often manages internal dynamics ahead of major events. LGA executive positions are pivotal for grassroots mobilization and local governance, while the National Convention will determine the party’s national leadership, influencing its strategy for future general elections. In a country with frequent electoral cycles, such internal agreements help mitigate conflicts and strengthen organizational capacity.

The repeated emphasis on PVCs aligns with Nigeria’s electoral framework, where voter cards are essential for validation at polling stations. With elections periodically scheduled, parties prioritize voter education and the security of electoral materials to enhance turnout and legitimacy.

The resolution in Ikorodu sets a reference point for other divisions within Lagos State and similar regions. As the APC progresses toward its National Convention, this local consensus may contribute to a cohesive national posture. Analysts note that unified front presentations can bolster a party’s public image and electoral readiness. The outcome will be closely watched for its implications on the APC’s cohesion and performance in upcoming polls, both at the state and federal levels, potentially shaping Nigeria’s political trajectory in the near term.
