APC’s Opeisa Wins Ohunbe Ward 8 By-Election Peacefully

Multi-Party Contest in Ogun State By-Election Sees APC Candidate Emerge Victorious

A by-election in Ohunbe Ward 8, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, concluded with the All Progressives Congress (APP) candidate declared winner following a contest featuring 19 political parties. The election, held across 24 polling units, saw a total of 3,263 votes cast.

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) Returning Officer for the ward, Mr. Kabiru Oyeyemi, announced Moses Opeisa of the APC as the victor. Opeisa secured 2,255 votes. Mr. Oyeyemi reported that voting commenced at 8:00 a.m. under the supervision of security agencies deployed to ensure a peaceful process. He noted the satisfactory cooperation of voters and party agents present at the polling stations.

OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, represented at the collation centre by Board Member Ayodele Bankole, described the election as peaceful and orderly. He commended the residents of Ohunbe for their participation in selecting a new local councillor. The Chairman also praised the professionalism of electoral officials and security personnel assigned to the polling units and collation centre.

The Olohunbe of Ohunbe Land, Oba Adekola Oladokun, separately thanked OGSIEC for conducting a smooth, free, and credible election. His endorsement highlighted the traditional institution’s recognition of the process’s legitimacy.

The high number of participating parties underscores a competitive field for the vacant councillorship seat. The declared winner, Moses Opeisa, is now set to represent the ward in the Yewa North Local Government Council. The election process and outcome reflect OGSIEC’s mandate to oversee local government polls in Ogun State, with security and electoral officials citing the successful conduct as a positive step for grassroots democracy in the region.
