APC Approves Subcommittees for Transparent 2026 Convention

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the composition of 15 sub-committees to oversee the organization of its 2026 National Convention, a key step in ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.

The announcement, made via a statement from National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, details a structured framework designed to manage all operational facets of the convention. The committees are tasked with coordinating critical areas including electoral procedures, logistics, security, finance, media, and member welfare.

Electoral oversight is central to the arrangement. The Aspirants’ Screening Committee, chaired by Governor Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State with Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi as Co-Chairman and former Senate President Sen. Ken Nnamani as Vice Chairman, will vet potential candidates. Appeals against screening decisions will be handled by the Screening Appeal Committee, led by Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa and Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano as Vice Chairman.

Conducting the actual election falls to the Election Committee, chaired by former Governor Aminu Bello Masari, with Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, Governor Uba Sani, and Rep. Monday Okpebholo serving as Vice Chairmen. The Election Appeal Committee will be chaired by Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, with Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano as Deputy Chairman.

Beyond the core electoral process, multiple committees address convention logistics and experience. The Venue Committee, co-chaired by Governor Abiodun Oluseun of Ogun and Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto, will manage site preparations. Security will be coordinated by a team including retired General Christopher Musa and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, with Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as Vice Chairman. A Finance Committee, led by Sen. Hope Uzodimma with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos as Co-Chairman and Finance Minister Olawale Edun as Vice Chairman, will oversee funding.

Other committees cover media (chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni), ceremonial programs (Sen. Godswill Akpabio), delegate accreditation (Prof. Babagana Zulum), protocol (Sen. Bassey Otu), transportation and accommodation (Governor Dave Umahi), entertainment (Governor Sheriff Oborevwori), legacy reporting (Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq), legal advisory (Hon. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN), medical response (Dr. Nasir Idris), and secretariat support (Mustapha Dawaki Bala).

The APC leadership urged all appointees to act with diligence and in strict adherence to party constitution and guidelines. The party reaffirmed its commitment to a convention that strengthens internal democracy and consolidates its progressive ideals, signalling the committees’ work as foundational to its political strategy ahead of the 2026 polls.
