Lagos Closes Epe-Bound Lekki-Ajah Expressway for Rehab

The Lagos State Government has announced the complete closure of the Epe-bound carriageway on the Lekki–Ajah Expressway, from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge in Ajah, to facilitate extensive rehabilitation works along the corridor.

The Ministry of Transportation confirmed the development in a statement signed by Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi. The total closure is intended to allow uninterrupted construction at key intersections. To manage traffic, all vehicles will be temporarily redirected to the Lagos-bound carriageway under a structured lane-sharing system.

According to the arrangement, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., two lanes will serve Lagos-bound traffic while one lane accommodates Epe-bound vehicles. The schedule reverses from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., with two lanes dedicated to Epe-bound traffic and one lane for Lagos-bound movement. Motorists are advised to use the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road as an alternative where feasible.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other traffic personnel will be deployed strategically along the corridor, with tow trucks on standby to handle breakdowns and emergencies. Nighttime operations will involve partial closures and restricted movement at multiple intersections, including Admiralty Way, Maruwa, Freedom Way, Chisco, Jakande, Igbo-Efon, Chevron, Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza to VGC, and the VGC to Jubilee Bridge axis. Additionally, all intersections will be fully shut for up to eight hours during night-time asphalt laying to ensure safety and construction quality.

Rehabilitation on the Epe-bound carriageway will be executed in phases, covering sections from Admiralty Way Junction through Maruwa, Freedom Way, Chisco, Jakande, Igbo-Efon, Chevron, Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza, VGC U-Turn, to Jubilee Bridge. Similar phased repairs are planned for the Lagos-bound side, following the recent completion of the Chevron-to-Admiralty segment on that carriageway.

The government urged residents and road users to cooperate with traffic officials, adhere to diversion signs, and plan journeys accordingly. Regular updates on the progress of the rehabilitation works will be provided.
