The country home of Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Imo State House of Assembly, Ifeanyi Ozoemena, was razed by gunmen. Ozoemena confirmed the arson to our correspondent, stating that both his house and his father’s residence in Okigwe Local Government Area were destroyed. “My house and that of my father at Umuokparaoha village in Umulolo community, Okigwe LGA, were razed on Tuesday,” the distraught politician said. “They struck around 2 p.m., set the houses on fire and supervised the burning. The two houses and the property were destroyed in the attack. They operated unchallenged. I am distraught. This is unfortunate. I call on the commissioner of police to intervene. I am grateful that no life was lost; my aged parents were not around when they struck.”

Our correspondent reported that, upon arrival, the attackers threw explosives at the houses, causing the property to catch fire immediately. Okigwe LGA has experienced a high level of insecurity and criminal activity since 2022, forcing many indigenes to flee their homes. In February, gunmen razed the country home of Labour Party candidate for the state House of Assembly, Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, in the same LGA. That same month, they burnt the house of the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Emeka Okoronkwo, in Ihube community, also in Okigwe LGA. Additional victims included the former commissioner for information, Nnamdi Obiaraeri; retired Director of the Department of Security Service, Nnaemeka Ngwu; and the director‑general of the campaign organization of the Labour Party candidate for Okigwe North Federal Constituency, Okey Unam, all of whose houses were burnt in Ihube community.

State police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the incident involving Ozoemena’s homes but said he was awaiting further details.
