Ogun State Meets Fulani Leaders on Security for Peace

Ogun State Government Engages Fulani Leaders, Security Agencies in Proactive Security Dialogue

The Ogun State Government has held a high-level security meeting with Fulani community leaders, security agencies, and other key stakeholders to reinforce peace and pre-empt security challenges across the state.

The gathering, which took place in Abeokuta, was called by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Olusola Subair (Rtd.), a former Assistant Inspector-General of Police. Attendees included heads of state security services, security consultants, local government council representatives, traditional Fulani leaders (Serikis), and officials from the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

Subair stressed that sustainable security depends on continuous, structured partnership between communities and formal security institutions. He stated that government’s duty is to foster an environment of vigilance and joint responsibility. “Security is most effective when communities and institutions work together,” he said. “Ogun State will continue to strengthen collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure peace and mutual trust remain the foundation of our coexistence.”

The meeting served as a forum for direct consultation on improving coordination between security operatives and community figures statewide. Fulani leaders, including the South-West Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Labar, and the group’s National Coordinator, Alhaji Abdul Mumuni Ibrahim, renewed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and pledged to assist security agencies in identifying and isolating criminal elements within their communities.

Following comprehensive discussions, participants endorsed several measures to enhance state-wide vigilance. These include deepening grassroots engagement, strengthening community-level cooperation, and maintaining consistent dialogue among all parties.

The state government also appealed to the general public to support these efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities. Residents are encouraged to utilise the Ogun State Police Command’s “Gateway Shield” mobile application and dedicated emergency hotlines. Key contact numbers include the toll-free line 08000009111, the Operations Control Room 09164859299, the NSCDC Agro Rangers on 08038404412 and 08078377670, and a line for reporting telecommunication mast tampering: 08036817148.

The meeting concluded with a unified resolve among stakeholders to sustain this collaborative framework, aiming to uphold peace, build inter-community trust, and ensure Ogun remains a secure environment for residents and economic activities.
