FCT Minister Promises Infrastructure Drive for New Waru-Pozema District
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration will prioritize providing essential infrastructure in the newly created Waru-Pozema District to facilitate residential and commercial development, Minister Nyesom Wike has announced.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday after a tour of ongoing projects, Wike said the administration would engage with relevant agencies, particularly the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), to chart a path forward. A key consideration will be whether the project is included in the 2026 budget. “We have to find out from the FCDA or the coordinator what they have in mind, whether it is in the 2026 budget,” Wike stated, adding, “Don’t worry, we will do everything we can to provide the needed infrastructure and open up the district so that people can move in.” The district is located within Cadastral Zone D16.
The minister’s field inspection also covered several key judicial infrastructure projects, which he expressed satisfaction with. The Court of Appeal complex is slated for completion by May, according to its contractors. Furthermore, judges’ quarters—including sections for the Federal High Court and FCT High Court—have already been furnished. The housing project encompasses 10 duplexes for the Federal High Court, 20 for the FCT High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal. Wike indicated these facilities are scheduled for inauguration during the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In Katampe, Wike inspected a major road project, describing its function as akin to a ring road. He commended the pace and quality of work, specifically praising the contractor, China Geo-Engineering Corporation. “It’s one of those companies—when they give you their word, you can go to the bank with it,” he remarked, highlighting the firm’s reliability.
He also praised the supervision of FCDA officials, led by Acting Executive Secretary Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda. Explaining his commitment to regular project inspections, Wike linked it to service and the confidence reposed in him by President Tinubu. “For the President to have confidence in you and give you an assignment, you have no choice but to be committed to the job,” he said.
转向 national politics, Wike, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called for internal unity. He stressed that reconciliation must precede discussions on future electoral strategies, expressing optimism that the party could regain competitiveness through sincere healing efforts, with current focus on the upcoming national convention.
