Uzor Arukwe Debunks Bamike Romance, Safeguards Marriage

Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has directly addressed and denied persistent rumours of a romantic relationship with actress and reality television personality Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, clarifying that their interaction was strictly professional and confined to a recent film set.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Igbo, Arukwe stated that the speculation following their on-screen collaboration was entirely unfounded. He emphasised that he and Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, who is married, had not known each other prior to the production. “That movie was the first time I had ever met her,” Arukwe said, adding that allegations of an off-screen affair or dating were “completely false.”

The actor detailed the precautions he took during filming to ensure all scenes were conducted with professionalism and respect for Olawunmi-Adenibuyan’s personal life. Arukwe explained that for any sequence requiring physical contact, he proactively discussed boundaries with her beforehand. He recounted specifically asking, “if there was any way I could touch her that her husband wouldn’t like or that might cause problems at home,” underscoring his intent to avoid any action that could jeopardise her marriage.

Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, widely known as “Bambam” from her participation in Big Brother Naija, has maintained a profile that blends her reality TV fame with her acting career. The rumour cycle surrounding their film project exemplifies a common challenge in Nollywood, where the personal lives of actors are frequently subject to public scrutiny, and on-screen chemistry can be misinterpreted by audiences.

Arukwe’s public clarification highlights the measures some performers take to navigate such perceptions, prioritising clear communication and respect for colleagues’ private lives. The incident underscores the ongoing tension between audience engagement with celebrity relationships and the professional realities of film production in Nigeria’s vast entertainment industry. Both actors continue their respective careers, with Arukwe’s statement serving as a definitive rebuttal to the speculation that emerged from their work together.
