PDP Ebonyi SWC Inaugurated, New Leadership Eyes 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a new State Working Committee (SWC) for Ebonyi State, marking a key step in the party’s preparations for future elections. The leadership, elected at a state congress on Friday, is headed by Hon. Chukwuma Igwe as State Chairman and Hon. Henry Ngonu as State Secretary.

The state congress, held at the PDP secretariat in Abakaliki, saw a large attendance of party members. The process was conducted peacefully under the monitoring of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a security presence. Barr Ukpai Ukairo, Chairman of the seven-man Congress Committee, announced that the new SWC was elected by consensus to minimise internal friction. He commended the decorum displayed by Ebonyi PDP members and charged the new executives to begin immediate work, stating the party is determined to regain electoral success ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Representing the national leadership, Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, the Southeast National Vice Chairman, urged the new SWC to collaborate with party leaders and stakeholders to ensure inclusive rebuilding. He specifically directed them to prioritise the e-registration of members, in full compliance with the new Electoral Act 2025 recently signed into law.

Other members elected to the 17-man SWC include Chief Chris Elechi Ngwuta (Deputy Chairman), Prince Kigsley Igwe (Treasurer), Barr Okohue Nkaa (Legal Adviser), Okoro Chukwudi Goodluck (Organising Secretary), and Nnanna Emea Oji (Youth Leader). The remaining positions are filled by Mrs. Chinyere Nwele (Women Leader), Darlington Onwe (Publicity Secretary), Emmanuel Uka Abraham (Financial Secretary), Francis Alegu (Auditor), Alhaji Idris Oken (Vice Chairman, Central), Barr Ugochukwu Obasi (Vice Chairman, South), and Mrs. Nwojiji Blessing Chinazum (Vice Chairman, North).

The inauguration underscores the PDP’s focused efforts to reorganise its state chapters, boost membership engagement through digital means, and position itself competitively for the 2027 election cycle. The new Ebonyi SWC is now tasked with implementing these directives at the state level.
