Nigerian Army GOC Inspects Kebbi Troops in Operation Fansan Yamma

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General P.B. Koughna, conducted a familiarisation tour of troops stationed in Kebbi State on March 15. The visit aimed to assess operational readiness and receive briefings on the security landscape in the region.

During the tour, Maj. Gen. Koughna inspected personnel from the CSI Battalion III at the Forward Operating Base in Dirin Daji, Sakaba Local Government Area, and later visited the 223 Light Tank Battalion. At both locations, he was received by the respective commanding officers who provided detailed briefings on ongoing activities, territorial coverage, and the prevailing security situation within their areas of responsibility. These briefings likely covered challenges including armed banditry, criminal kidnappings, and residual insurgency activities that affect parts of northwest Nigeria.

Following the inspections, the GOC addressed the assembled troops, emphasizing the importance of continued vigilance, professional conduct, and unwavering commitment to duty. He urged personnel to uphold high standards of discipline and remain prepared to respond swiftly to any emergent threats. The address underscored the critical role of the deployed forces in supporting broader national security objectives under Operation Fansan Yamma, the military’s coordinated effort to tackle insecurity in the northwest and north-central zones.

Subsequently, Maj. Gen. Koughna held a closed-door strategic meeting with unit commanders. Discussions focused on operational progress, logistical needs, intelligence sharing, and coordinated strategies to address persistent security challenges. This high-level engagement allows for the alignment of tactical efforts with the division’s overarching operational plan.

The familiarisation tour concluded without incident. As a standard practice, troops were reminded to maintain heightened alertness and professionalism in their duties. Such visits by senior commanders are routine within the Nigerian Army, serving to boost morale, directly assess field conditions, and ensure that operational directives are effectively communicated and implemented at the unit level. The tour reaffirms the military’s sustained focus on stabilizing Kebbi State and the wider northwest region through proactive and coordinated ground operations.
