Fani-Kayode: Momodu to Crawl Back After 2027 Tinubu Win

Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Femi Fani-Kayode, has sharply criticized political commentator Dele Momodu, forecasting his political decline after President Bola Tinubu secures re-election in 2027. The exchange highlights escalating tensions among prominent figures in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The dispute began when Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), described Fani-Kayode and fellow commentator Reno Omokri as “perpetual agents of perfidy” lacking credibility in a recent statement. In response, Fani-Kayode posted a lengthy rebuttal on the social media platform X, dismissing Momodu’s remarks as emotionally charged and indicative of a “lost cause.”

Fani-Kayode asserted that Momodu’s influential days have ended, stating, “For Bobby Dee, the glory days are certainly over.” He predicted that following Tinubu’s 2027 victory, Momodu would “crawl back into the hole that he originally came from,” alluding to a return to less prominent roles, such as photographing and serving public figures. The ambassador further accused Momodu of being “completely unhinged” and “a shadow of his former self,” suggesting his reaction stemmed from personal hurt rather than logical argument.

The ambassador also addressed Momodu’s references to past criticisms of Tinubu, calling them irrelevant. He noted that playing clips from over a decade ago, when Fani-Kayode was in opposition, does not absolve Momodu from what he termed “the stench of faeces” of his current position. Fani-Kayode reiterated that Momodu’s description of Tinubu as a dictator was “rubbish.”

Fani-Kayode, a former minister and current diplomatic representative, and Momodu, a publisher and ADC leader, have long been vocal in Nigeria’s political sphere. Their public feud reflects broader dynamics as the nation approaches the 2027 general election, where Tinubu is expected to seek a second term. Omokri, a social media influencer known for his critical takes, adds to the triad of commentators often embroiled in such debates.

This confrontation underscores the increasingly personal nature of political discourse in Nigeria, where established figures use platforms like X to settle scores and shape narratives ahead of elections. Analysts note that such rhetoric can polarize public opinion and distract from policy discussions, but it also engages a highly active online audience.

As the 2027 election cycle nears, observers will watch whether these verbal sparring matches influence voter sentiment or merely serve as spectacles within Nigeria’s competitive media environment. The outcome may depend on how such exchanges resonate with a diverse electorate concerned with economic and security issues.
