No Holiday Alert: Federal Fire Service FCT for Eid

Federal Fire Service Deploying Maximum Resources for Eid-il-Fitr Safety

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has activated a full operational stance for the Eid-il-Fitr celebrations, implementing a “no holiday” directive to safeguard lives and property throughout the festive period.

The FCT Command announced that all personnel are on heightened alert, with fire stations maintaining round-the-clock readiness. FCT Controller Mohammed Suleiman Anas issued the directive during a pre-festive briefing with station commanders, ordering the deployment of maximum manpower across all units. He mandated that all fire trucks and rescue equipment be fully functional and positioned for rapid emergency response.

“The Service provides essential services and does not shut down for holidays,” Controller Anas stated, emphasizing the FFS’s role as a critical emergency agency. He assured residents of the FCT of prompt intervention for any fire or rescue incident.

The heightened alert follows a seasonal pattern where festive periods correlate with increased fire hazards. While congratulating Muslim communities on the conclusion of Ramadan, Anas cautioned that celebrations often involve activities raising fire risks. He urged the public to adopt preventive measures, including switching off unused electrical appliances, avoiding unattended cooking, and refraining from the use of fireworks.

To ensure swift reporting, the Controller reminded residents to keep emergency contact lines accessible. Incidents within the FCT can be reported directly to the Command at 08032003557.

The FFS’s operational continuity underscores its mandate as a frontline public safety institution. By suspending non-essential leave and pre-positioning resources, the service aims to mitigate preventable incidents and ensure an effective response capacity during a time of heightened social activity. The public’s cooperation with safety advisories is presented as a vital component of the overall emergency preparedness strategy for the capital territory.
